If you were expecting a calmer news climate after 2020 – the year that gave new meaning to the word “unprecedented” – 2021 came to prove you wrong. The postponed Tokyo Olympics brought with it an animated trailer full of hidden easter eggs, conversations around social media saw Norway pass restrictions on retouched photos, and Iron Maiden returned with an epic film for their new track.
With lockdowns still looming and viewers stuck to their TV screens, stories on Grayson’s Art Club, Rankin’s Great British Photography Challenge and newly hired creative director/Rick and Morty star Jerry Smith took centre stage. Elsewhere in design, the first house ever to be 3D-printed from raw earth hit the top of our most-read chart this year.
