Clémence Passot lives in the mountains in the south of France, enjoying “exploring, mastering new techniques and looking at the craftsmanship of things”. Magali Brueder lives in Paris, where she “paints, prints and experiments with landscapes…” She also runs a small publishing house called La Mousse éditions. Working across France, the two graphic designers are able to merge their interests under their joint practice, Aéro Club, a multidisciplinary graphic design studio which they founded back in 2019, alongside Pierre Tandille.

Run by Clémence and Magali since the beginning of 2024, the studio has a large repertoire of exciting projects spanning the fields of theatre, dance, circus art, architecture, photography and more – hence its lively and eclectic portfolio. Both graduates of École des arts decoratifs from Paris and Strasbourg, the pair focus their time on creating meaningful identity systems, publications and posters, all with a “vivid and sensitive approach and a particular attention to typography, colours and visual experimentations”, says Magali. We particularly love their ongoing visuals for La Nuit de Cirque using colourful building blocks for faces and structures, and their identity system for Chorège, using playful cutouts for some very French applications – like the design of a bespoke baguette wrapper.

Taking a wide scope of inspiration from the visual arts world for their work, the pair love the textile work of Anni Albers, expressionist and fauvist painters, and the collection at the National Museum of Ethnology in Osaka, Japan (which they visited recently) – to name just a few from their list. “We both have a drawing practice and a special interest in photography, objects and printmaking”, says Clémence. In their day-to-day lives, Clémence gets her inspiration “from mountaineering near her home”, and Magali “wanders the streets of Paris, carefully observing storefronts and the changing light over the Parc des Buttes-Chaumont”. As for their time working as Aéro Club, the pair like to work on subjects that are on the outskirts of their personal work as a way to “renew ourselves and try out new things”, shares Magali.
