A show by womxn, celebrating inspiring womxn, by W+K Amsterdam
The Intersection exhibition features 50 artworks curated by the agency and The TittyMag, by a veritable who’s who of female-identifying creatives in The Netherlands.
Wieden + Kennedy Amsterdam is marking International Women’s Day and Women’s History Month with an exhibition celebrating female-identifying creatives, and the women who inspire and feature in their work. Put together with Dutch creative platform The TittyMag, whose content is focused on creatives who are engaged in feminism, inclusiveness and empowerment, the show titled The Intersection aimed to go one stage further than simply displaying womxn’s work, as it promotes the sharing of ideas and experience, in the name of empowerment.
The team briefed expat and local artists in The Netherlands to create and share work featuring womxn they are inspired by or admire. W+K has also offered them a space in which to network and share their experiences, because it’s those connections that lead to more work, a broader perspective and a chance to support their peers. The outcome is 50 artworks spanning photography, graphic design, illustration, ceramics and writing, including artists Sophie Ebrard, Willemieke Kars, Sioejeng Tsao, Sandy van Helden, Maxime Cardol, Marta Cerda and Coco Olakunle, among many others. Each piece has been donated by the participating artists.
Proceeds from the show including artwork sales will go to Amsterdam-based non-profit The Neighborhood Feminists, which runs direct-impact community projects from an intersectional feminist perspective. Its latest project provides women living in difficult situations in Amsterdam with Dignity Kits: period products, essential toiletries, underwear and socks.
The Intersection is open at W+K Amsterdam (Herengracht 258) until 5 May 2020.
