Original sets and puppets from Wes Anderson’s Isle of Dogs to be exhibited in London
An exhibition of original sets and puppets from Wes Anderson’s upcoming stop-motion animated film Isle of Dogs are to go on display in London. Taking over The Store on the Strand in central London from 23 March–5 April, the exhibition is hosted in conjunction with Fox Searchlight Pictures and is free to enter. There will also be a life-sized recreation of a Japanese noodle bar from the film, open from midday as part of the event, serving ramen by chef Akira Shimizu, and sake cocktails available during late night openings on Thursdays and Fridays.
The film was shot predominantly in east London, and will bring 17 of the intricate original sets to the exhibition space, allowing for close-up examination of the incredibly detailed designs. The score and soundtrack will also play in the space, to fully immerse visitors in the Isle of Dogs experience.
Isle of Dogs is Wes Anderson’s second foray into animation. Set in near-future Japan in the fictional city of Megasaki, the story follows a corrupt, dog-hating mayor who exiles all the city’s canines to Trash Island and his heroic nephew who ventures to the island save his beloved pet Spots. It is a true visual feast (read our full review here) so exploring the sets up close is bound to be an incredible sight.
Isle of Dogs the exhibition is open 23 March–5 April 2018 at The Store, 180 The Strand, 11am–7pm Saturday–Wednesday, 11am–10pm Thursday and Friday. The film is released in UK cinemas on 30 March.
