Christopher Bailey, Lucy Kumara Moore and Alasdair McLellan are co-curating an exhibition for Burberry
This afternoon, Burberry announced that it is to host a major photography exhibition exploring British life.
Here We Are will exhibit work from more than 30 of the last century’s most renowned British social and documentary photographers.
The exhibition is curated by Burberry’s President and Chief Creative Officer Christopher Bailey and Claire de Rouen’s Lucy Kumara Moore along with Alasdair McMellan.
Here We Are will take over three floors of Old Sessions House, Burberry’s new Clerkenwell show venue. Over 200 works by photographers including Martin Parr, Janette Beckman, Dafydd Jones and Ken Russell will be shown.
“When we started thinking about curating Here We Are, I knew I wanted it to celebrate a certain strand of British photography that I have always loved – one which documents the many and varied tribes and clans and classes that make up this island of ours,” said Christopher Bailey. “It has been an extraordinary privilege to gather together this collection of photographs, that have influenced me so much over the years. They provide a portrait of British life, in all its nuances, both exceptional and mundane, beautiful and harsh.”
Lucy Kumara Moore added “I have long been enchanted by British ‘social portraiture’ – photography that reveals the ways in which we live, work, dream, celebrate and challenge, both individually and collectively. I was therefore honoured to be invited by Christopher to curate this exhibition with him – he has such a deep personal interest in the work and his idea to host this exhibition reflects the brand’s expansive approach to the relation between fashion and visual culture.”
Burberry have also announced a new creative collaboration with photographer Alasdair McMellan.
Here We Are is open 18 September–1 October 2017 at Old Sessions House, 22 Clerkenwell Green, London, EC1
