Chaumont international poster competition is calling for entries to the 29th edition of its respected graphic design showcase, with selected posters to be shown later this year as part of the Biennale Internationale de Design Graphique and added to its vast archive. Entrants also have the chance to win one of four awards with monetary prizes. The competition launched in 1990 “in order to value poster design on an international scale” and, from its entries over the years, has built an archive of over 45,000 pieces.
A brief scroll through the seemingly endless existing collection online is chock full of inspiration, from established and renowned studios and designers including Bureau David Voss, Spassky Fischer, Studio Dumbar, Vrints-Kolsteren, Parallel Practice, Mark Bohle, Niklaus Troxler, Erich Brechbühl, Neo Neo, Kasper-Florio and many, many more. The collection comprises designs from 28 editions of the competition alongside posters from the late 19th Century, and lives in Le Signe, a permanent venue dedicated to graphic design in France which opened in 2016.
Professional designers can submit their work as a studio or individual employee. Posters must have been commissioned or lived in a real context (ie. not a speculative project). Animated and interactive posters are also now accepted. Work must have been created within the last three years, and each applicant can submit three projects. Designs selected by the jury for this year’s competition will be shown from 27 May – 26 September 2021, during the third edition of the graphic design biennale. Four prizes will also be awarded: €3,000 for the Grand Prix, €1,500 for the Prix Espoir, €1,000 for the Prix du Public and €3,000 for the Prix SAIF. The deadline is 13 February 2021; more information on how to enter is available here.
