Michael Bierut, Andrew B. Myers, Madeline Montoya and Tina Tona: Tickets now available for September’s Nicer Tuesdays in New York!

Nicer Tuesdays will be returning to New York with an incredible line-up of creatives. Get seated for some awe-inspiring talks on collage, photography, and publishing – with a Q&A with Michael Bierut to boot.

Extra, extra! New Yorkers, we’re coming back. Since our last event across the pond in June, we’ve been cooking up a brilliant line-up just for you, landing at the SVA Theatre this September.

At the event, you can expect talks from the photographer and art director Andrew B. Myers, Byline’s creative director Madeline Montoya, and the up-and-coming collage artist Tina Tona. For our Q&A slot, we’ll be hearing from the legendary graphic designer, design critic and educator Michael Bierut in conversation with our US editor-at-large Elizabeth Goodspeed.

We’re also excited to provide each attendee with a complimentary drink (with proof of legal age), and to partner with Love Corn, which will be providing some snacks. A massive thanks to our event partner GF Smith.

The event will take place on Tuesday 9 September at the School of Visual Arts Theatre in Chelsea. Doors will open at 6:30 pm and the talks will begin around 7pm. The full address is SVA Theatre, 333 West 23rd Street, New York, NY10011. It’s a seated event, so get there early to ensure a seat and pick up a drink beforehand!

Please be aware that photography and filming may be taken at this event for marketing and promotional purposes. If you do not want to be photographed or filmed, please speak to our team on the day. Also, if you are in need of disability access, please email hello@nicertuesdays.com so we can arrange assistance with the venue team.

Michael Bierut may not need any introduction, but we’ll do one anyway. As a graphic designer, design critic and educator, Michael has been at the spearhead of design with several books such as How To, Seventy Nine Short Essays On Design and Now You See It, as well as inspiring projects such as his iconic 100 Day Project, recently detailed in his essay for It’s Nice That. Most famously, he’s been a partner at the design firm Pentagram since 1990, a position he announced recently that he will be stepping back from. Michael will be sitting down with our US editor-at-large Elizabeth Goodspeed for September’s Q&A session, so make sure you grab your ticket for the opportunity of hearing the candid thoughts of one of the graphic design world’s biggest figures on his career to date.

Andrew B. Myers is a Brooklyn based photographer and art director who has found success with clients such as Apple, Dolce & Gabanna, The Guardian, Netflix and many more through his use of sublime compositions, bone-dry wit and emotive colour palettes – not to mention he’s a Webby award winning creative, too. At our Nicer Tuesdays event, Andrew will be sharing behind the scenes of his photography work and giving us the down-low on processes such as handbuilding models for all his in-studio shoots.

Madeline Montoya is a Texas-born, New York-based creative director and designer with a burning passion for all things editorial – as art director for Bloomberg Businessweek and creative director of the independent magazine Byline, she’s been focusing on publications as playgrounds for brand design, aiming to be as “holistic as possible, but malleable”. Madeline will be bringing her inspiring attitude and love for magazines in a talk that sheds a light on the creative process behind Byline.

Tina Tona is a LA-based photo-collage artist who is cutting up magazines and found ephemera to explore “the richness of diasporic Black expression”. Exploring her dual heritage through pop culture and collage, her expressive works pop with saturated colours and “organised noise”, creating a meaningful connection between materials and alchemising influences with validity and dignity. Tina will be giving an introduction to her vibrant work and highlighting the projects that have defined her practice to date in her talk in next month’s event.
