Over here at It’s Nice That we’ve still got a warm giddy feeling left over from our last Nicer Tuesdays. A sell-out event, the night started off our 2025 event series with a bang, featuring some very special guests of honour taking to the stage from Aardman Animations. We were so happy to see so many of you come down to enjoy some inspiring talks, we’re now excited to let you all in on the line up for our next event. You’ll be pleased to hear that March looks set to be much of the same, with another amazing line-up of creatives in store!
Taking to the Nicer Tuesday’s stage will be the founders of The White Pube – the online magazine here to call out “the overly stale, pale and male state of the art industry”. Gabrielle de la Puente and Zarina Muhammad, will be taking us behind the scenes of the world of art criticism and their recently published debut book Poor Artist. Next, the music video director and filmmaker Will Norman will be transporting us to London’s iconic grime scene, through a world of model trains and miniatures. We’ll be going behind the scenes of his brilliant new music video for British MC Jme’s track TNMT.
Then, we’ll be diving into cartoonist Stella Murphy’s wonderful world of editorial illustrations, a creative whose abstract characters and psychedelic senses have touched the pages of The New York Times and come to life in commissions for Adult Swim, Nike, Ace and Tate and more. Last but certainly not least we will be welcoming global branding agency Koto to the stage with Sam Howard and Dylan Young joining us from Koto’s London studio to take the crowd through the agencies approach to the art through an exploration of their recent project Seasoned.
Our event partner for this months Nicer Tuesday’s is WePresent. New Rules is a series from WeTransfer’s arts platform WePresent that interrogates how to thrive as an artist in creative industries that are in a state of flux. The third instalment, New Rules: Design explores the power of research and the input into projects, and has been created in collaboration with It’s Nice That. To celebrate the launch of this downloadable guide, It’s Nice That and WePresent will partner on the March edition of Nicer Tuesdays. At the event, speakers will delve into the research techniques and creative input across design and beyond, exploring the processes and thinking that feed into the eventual output.
The event will take place on 4 March at EartH, Hackney, with doors opening at 6pm. As this is an 18+ event, please bring ID with you to the venue. If you are in need of disability access, please make yourself known to a member of the EartH team on the night or email hello@nicertuesdays.com so we can arrange assistance. Read more about March’s speakers below.
Founded in 2015 with a team of six and now a global presence in the world of branding, Koto is spread across five cities, working with clients of all sizes and sectors. At March’s Nicer Tuesdays, Sam Howard and Dylan Young of Koto’s London studio will be joining us to talk though the thinking behind the agencies recent project Seasoned: a series of interactive guides inspired by the bold, no-nonsense style of 70s cookbooks, that invite up-and-coming creatives to have a seat at the table and learn from designers that have been cooking up brands for years.
Writing since 2015, The White Pube’s founders Gabrielle de la Puente and Zarina Muhammad have continuously addressed “the overly stale, pale and male state of the art industry”, via their online art magazine. Alongside their brilliant weekly reviews and provocative essays, the critics published their debut book Poor Artists last year – ‘a powerful testimony to the emotional, existential and financial experiences of artists today,’ that shares their take on capitalism and creativity. At our next Nicer Tuesdays, Zarina will be giving us an insight into their journey into the world of contemporary art and criticism, why they started their collaborative identity under The White Pube, and how it led to a Penguin-published book.
London-based illustrator and cartoonist Stella Murphy’s vibrant, psychedelic scenes have covered countless creative commissions for the likes of Adult Swim, Blinkink, Bloomberg, The New York Times, Nike and more, with abstract and amusing characters and moments she uncovers in the everyday. But how exactly does she do it? The cartoonist will take to the Nicer Tuesdays stage to walk us through the process behind her editorial illustration work from breaking down a brief to sending off the final piece. The cartoonist will also be giving us an insight into how she moved from the graphic design and art world into illustration, letting us in on what’s been shaping her signature storytelling style since her early beginnings.
Director and filmmaker Will Norman, has built up a bit of a reputation as a music video magician with a recent video for British MC Jme that saw his miniature take over a tiny model train village replica of London. It took us through some of London’s iconic grime history moments at table top scale, marking his second collaboration with the grime artist to date after working with Jme on his video for On Top. At March’s Nicer Tuesdays the director will be letting the audience in on some of the process behind the production of the ingenious short, delving into all the tiny details that built up the video’s vibrant visual world.
