For our Nicer Tuesdays event at Cannes this year, we are teaming up with leading AI-powered visual communication platform Canva to bring visitors a series of inspiring talks by creatives, taking place at Canva’s own Creative Cabana. A Happy Hour celebrating the global creative community, this year’s gathering is set to spotlight a diverse range of global voices, sharing insights into their process, ideas and experiments – creating a moment for inspiration and connection in the middle of the Cannes Lions festival.
Line-up
For our four talks, we’ll be welcoming renowned artist and illustrator Sebastian Curi, who will be giving us a peek into the process behind his showstopping graphic prints, showing how analogue tools are shaping his unique creative practice. Cat How, the founder and executive creative director of international branding agency How&How, will also take to the Cannes Nicer Tuesdays stage to reveal a few creative insights from the agency’s recent identity projects, exploring how the design industry is shifting with the current climate.
Also joining us is the director and founder of short film streaming platform, Minute Shorts, Janvier Wete, delivering a talk on why he chose to create a dedicated online space that puts film in the hands of those who appreciate it most. Finally we’ll be hearing from Cat van der Werff, executive creative director at Canva, to take a look inside the platform’s in-house creative agency and its projects across brand, campaigns, performance and production – all in service of Canva’s mission to empower the world to design.

Known for his bold, playful visual style, we have artist and illustrator Sebastian Curi joining us for this year’s Cannes Nicer Tuesdays. Based in Barcelona, the artist’s recent geometric compositions are a labour of love: all hand-drawn, hand-painted and hand-printed in his studio – an interesting pivot for someone who made his name as a digital artist. The illustrator will be taking to the stage to give the Cannes Nicer Tuesdays audience an insight into the creative process behind his showstopping graphic print work and the reasons behind this shift to analogue in his practice.
A powerhouse within the design community, Cat How is founder and executive creative director of international branding agency How&How as well as being a well respected writer, speaker and awards judge. Needless to say, she understands the design landscape more than most, and will be bringing a few of her learnings from recent identity projects (ice cream brand Snooz and AI tool Jupi) to the Cannes Nicer Tuesdays crowd, discussing how the design industry is shifting in the current climate.
Next up, we will have London-based film director and founder of short film streaming platform, Minute Shorts, Janvier Wete, joining us on stage to tell the story of the platform’s beginnings and how it came to inspire and champion short form content, showcasing high quality films and pioneering narratives from around the world (with 50 per cent of the shorts, directed or produced by womxn). As more and more content is being rapidly produced and consumed on our phones, Janvier will be talking about why he chose to create a dedicated online space to put film in the hands of those who appreciate it most.
Last, but certainly not least, Cat van der Werff, executive creative director at Canva will be joining us on stage to take the Nicer Tuesdays audience though how she is leading the platform’s global in-house creative agency of more than 120 creatives across brand, campaigns, performance and production, all in service of Canva’s mission to empower the world to design. With over 15 years of experience in brand building, the creative director will be running us through how she’s helped shape the creative direction of some of Canva’s most iconic campaigns including: What Will You Design Today?, Love Your Work, as well as the annual Canva Create events.
