Jiri Mocek creates punchy custom typography for his latest projects

Jiri Mocek has spent the last few months working on his portfolio and developing his style via a plethora of projects. To create a unique aesthetic Jiri has created multiple custom typography for his projects which range from bendy retro-looking sans serif faces to more traditional serif fonts in bright colours.

This emphasis on type and composition feels punchy, and the image-based, graphic flourishes bring the designer’s ideas together with elegance. There’s still a boldness to Jiri’s work yet it feels a little more playful compared to when we last spoke to the designer and this is helped through the different formats he’s working in.

“I feel I’m challenged every time I have to work with new technologies. Especially with digital media in terms of web developing and animating,” says Jiri. “For example I am doing an ongoing project at UMPRUM University, where I am converting classic printed books into digital surroundings.”

Other projects the Prague-base designer has been working on include posters for Harvey Sutherland’s summer tour continuing his love of combining music with design; a collaboration with Ondrej Petrlik on a small catalogue design; and more work with Cindy Kutikova on the visual aesthetic of a gallery and concert hall. “We know each other from UMPRUM University and we’ve also lived together for the last two years, so from time to time we collaborate on different projects,” explains Jiri.
