Bianca Forischi’s work might be excessive and imperfect – but that’s what makes it so good

It’s rare to stumble across a portfolio as joyful as Bianca Forischi’s – and we’re so glad we did. Fit to burst with maximalist energy and overrun with “excessive” colours, Bianca’s core aim is to capture the essence of Latin America’s design language. “I try to bring to my work the flow of handwritten signs, the saturated colours, the humour and the spontaneity of our culture,” she says. Bianca is Brazilian, but has lived all over the place; from Bolivia and Uruguay, to Sweden, and The Netherlands, though she’s currently doing an internship at Can Can Press in Mexico, before moving back to Rotterdam to finish her graphic design degree.

One thing is imperative for Bianca when creating personal works: the need to have fun. She switches off from “rules, expectations, and conventional aesthetics”, instead letting a sense of freedom take the lead, embracing “imperfect” lines while picking subject matter completely randomly. Often working at the intersection of digital illustration and graphic design, one of Bianca’s most used applications is Procreate – “it makes me feel like I’m drawing on paper, but with the privilege of ctrl + z”, she says. Though, when time permits, Bianca also loves to get her hands stuck into some analogue processes, like painting with rough brushes, or diving headfirst into experimental editorial design. Not long ago, she made a brilliant Risograph zine about one of her most recent obsessions, Mexican wrestling. Featuring bold colours, mix-and-match type and a chirpy energy, the zine is a perfect combination of all the elements that make Bianca’s work shine.
