Bafic's surreal new music video considers the realm of dreams

We’ve been tracing the trail of London-based filmmaker and artist Bafic for quite some time. Among his most recent work you’ll spot a music video for Neneh Cherry Spit Three Times, as well as one for her daughter Mabel’s My Boy My Town, among commercial work for the likes of NikeLab and TfL and ASOS.

Today sees the Pulse-signed filmmaker releasing a music video for unsigned artist Jeshi. “We pulled a lot of favours to get this done, all very happy with how it went,” Bafic tells It’s Nice That.

The result is Daydreams. The film opens honed in close on a fluttering eyelid. As the camera backs away, more details are revealed, and Daydreams enters a surreal, unsettling realm.

“I’ve had this idea for some time,” Bafic explains. “I have a folder on my phone of ideas. It started initially with a different thought, and I kept tweaking building and adjusting it. I just wanted it to be really simple. Keep It Simple Stupid… Always.”

“I wanted to make something that looked beautiful, but also had a wtf and funny too — many times funny stuff doesn’t look good,” Bafic laughs. “I kept thinking about what Donald Glover and Hiro Mura have been doing recently with Atlanta and the mood and sensibilities of that. I knew I wanted it to start really cold and then transition into a warm environment.”
