An interactive light installation representing the brain’s nervous system takes over The Lowry, Salford
On the occasion of The Lowry, Salford’s Week 53 festival, an interactive light installation by Belgium-based Tom Dekyvere will take over the gallery’s double height foyer.
Nervous represents the brain’s nervous system through light, ropes and electronics. Inspired by Deyvere’s childhood brain injury, the art work considers the natural of reality, the human brain and it’s connections and disconnections. The Lowry’s public space will be transformed by the installation which will use interactive technology during the evenings to allow visitors to use their own brains to alter the lighting of Nervous.
The Lowry is the most visited cultural destination in the north west. Since 2018 marks the institution’s 18th birthday, this year’s Week 53 festival will celebrate coming of age. Bringing together 100 artists and 70 performances across 12 days, the festival will look to “re-visit familiar stories told in new and surprising ways”.
