Polish designer Martyną Wedzicka-Obuchowicz has built herself an instantly recognisable style. However, she always aims to “surprise” her audience. Through the use of bold typography, eye-catching colours and geometric illustrations, she is constantly on the search for new narratives, perspectives and expressions.

The ways in which Martyną achieves this by weaving “distortion and error” throughout her designs. While predominantly working in digital, she experiments with various analogue techniques to create these “errors”, like collaging and using a simple office scanner to create a “glitch” technique. Designing posters and identities for festivals is what Martyną sees as affording her the biggest opportunity to do something “unexpected and fresh”. This fact is presented beautifully in her work for the Gdańsk City of Literature festival, where Martyną designed a series of posters that featured exerts of poems, which she then distorted with a fisheye tool. When placed together, the posters create something truly visually unique.
