Illustrator Limoo Park keeps her paint brush thick and her scenes sweet

The South Korean illustrator prioritises simplicity, letting her colours and compositions do the talking.

Remember as a kid when you’d mess around on Microsoft Paint, playing with the thickness of the ‘paintbrush’ and the maximum setting would look like nothing more than a messy blob? Well, the illustrator Limoo Park has proved that a broad brush can actually be incredibly expressive. By “omitting realistic depictions” and rendering objects, people and scenes in a more simplistic manner, Limoo believes that her colours and compositions are allowed to take centre stage, becoming more lively and intriguing.

In all of her works, what most stands out is the pleasing colour combinations, warm oranges paired with rich blues and greens, the lack of shading or detail allowing the perfectly mixed colours to sing. Then your eyes are drawn to Limoo’s compositions: sweet everyday scenes that warm the heart. Friends huddled for dinner around a kitchen table, a bustling art gallery, a calming train journey, a pair of cats watching from a window as a dog is taken for a walk. Truly, Limoo’s work proves that sometimes, less is more.
