It’s been another busy year of cultural design projects for Badesaison

Graphic design studio Badesaison has gone and done it again with some beautiful new projects. While we gazed in awe at a couple of its projects last year, we recently caught up with the Zurich-based studio on five of its most recent design endeavours; which are as sleek as ever. Founded by Lukas Ackermann and Andreas Sporri, it’s been another busy year for the graphic designers and as exemplified through these works.

To celebrate the tenth anniversary of Bar 3000, Lukas and Andreas created a fanzine for the popular establishment. The publication features a selection of online reviews from the past decade, printed on dusky pink paper and set in the pixel-based font Solow, designed by Philipp Hermann. Each letter is made up of small black squares, evoking a futuristic feel while simultaneously referring to the bar’s central element of interior design; a wall plastered with repeated dices. Each fanzine is also accompanied by a unique photo print, taken by various club visitors over the past ten years.

In other work, the founding designers of Badesaison designed the inaugural LP for indie band Black Sea Dahu. Titled White Creatures, the bold album artwork featured illustrations by Lara Hauser and, when coupled with Lukas and Andreas’ understated typographic layouts on coloured paper, the Zurich-based band are presented with a striking first LP cover which feels both contemporary and classic.

An open zine with a pink checkered background. The left page features bold, pixelated black text that reads “Schon okay, die Bar 3000.” The right page contains a small photograph of a person performing a handstand on a white plinth. Above the photo, a list of credits and the title “Schon okay, die Bar 3000” are printed in a small sans-serif font.

Continuing to predominantly work within Switzerland’s thriving cultural scene, in recent months Badesaison have also designed the poster and flyer for a political festival discussing the relationship between Europe and Switzerland. The design “looks back at the 90s and how the relationship between the two has developed in the past 20 years," the designers tell It’s Nice That, "but also investigate what the future relationship holds and what could be done better.”

Additionally creating a newspaper and invitations for the artist Thomas De Monaco’s exhibition opening in Paris, the designers finally go on to tell us about a new visual identity for a cultural hotspot in Lucerne. In the heart of Switzerland, Südpol has seen concerts, theatres, clubs and restaurants take hold of the multi-disciplinary area.

“The new concept,” explains Lukas, “is based on a strict type and grid system for a variety of formats. This structure makes it possible to quickly create advertising material for all kinds of events.” Taking on the design of all printed matter as well as a website and a magazine for the area, it has certainly been another busy year full of design highs for Lukas and Andreas. Eagerly awaiting to see what typographic beauties they tackle next, let’s hope it’s another goodsaison of design for the Swiss pair.
