The organisers of the annual London Design Festival have announced what they describe as “an inspiring series of city-wide commissions and installations,” which promise to “transform the capital,” in mid-September.

Commissioned creatives include Kengo Kuma, Martino Gamper, and Liz West. Their work will be displayed at the V&A, Coal Drops Yard, and Fortnum and Mason respectively.

The hope is that given — so LDF say anyway — that one in six people in London are employed in the creative industries in some capacity, these site-specific sculptural installations will keep citizens entertained and engaged at summer’s end.

“London Design Festival continues to grow and evolve,” says the event’s director Ben Evans. “London is the biggest cultural hub of any global city with a rapidly expanding creative sector, and design is at the heart of this. The festival provides a platform for designers to connect with an audience hungry for the latest in design innovation and solidifies our position as an international creative powerhouse.”

Sprawling across the city between 14-22 September, we’re reliably informed that each of the installations will, in their own special way, add an “exciting new dimension” to London’s streets and spaces.
