LA studio Laundry creates amazing warped Simpsons idents for American channel FX

LA-based creative studio Laundry has created a series of idents for American TV network FX to promote all The Simpsons episodes ever made being available on the channel. “We are completely infatuated with all things Simpsons. The challenge when branding for a culturally iconic brand like The Simpsons is keeping it recognisable visually but surprising tonally,” explains Laundry.

“We designed and sketched several dozen ways these graphic idents could go. Influences ranged anywhere from Pinterest Simpsons searches to discovering fan art on Instagram,” the studio says. “We came to an agreement with the client that where the drawing style would feel intrinsically Simpsons for brand recognition, the more abstract and weird we could be within that, the more memorable.”

The result is a cornucopia of yellow madness where our favourite characters are warped, stretched and made into blobs with aplomb. The Simpsons characters have become so classic that just the curve of Homer’s bald head or Maggie’s orange dummy is just as communicative as presenting the whole family on screen.
