Call for Collaboration: your chance to collaborate with Kelly Anna on a limited edition zine
We’re excited to announce Call for Collaboration – a new It’s Nice That x Dropbox Paper project connecting creatives from across the world to collaborate on fun, fully commissioned creative projects. Each month we’ll spotlight the projects on It’s Nice That and show how Dropbox Paper helps these great ideas come to life.
In the first of our on-going collaborations with Dropbox Paper, beloved print designer and illustrator Kelly Anna is on the lookout for a graphic designer to collaborate on a new zine! The end goal for Kelly is to create an impactful, limited edition zine championing female strength.
“I want to work closely with a graphic designer/typographer to create an energetic zine which visually represents women’s strength. Using powerful cut out visuals and wording with strong reference to vintage olympic visuals,” Kelly tells It’s Nice That of her brief. "A book to inspire women to feel powerfully fearless.”
The inspiration for this brief has developed from Kelly’s love of reading stories on boundary pushing women throughout history. In doing this, Kelly discovered Katherine Switzer, who officials attempted to eject from the 1967 Boston marathon, simply because she was a woman. During this time marathon running was firmly considered a man’s sport, due to the supposed fragile form of a female.
“Katherine’s story just related to that feeling I used to get in high school when I wanted to play with the ‘lads’, but it just wasn’t the done thing,” says Kelly, whose work regularly features sport motifs. “We were seen as ‘too fragile’,” she explains, “even though I knew I wasn’t. I wish I had the courage back then like I do now. I just love the way she didn’t even see it as an issue and did it anyway. I fell for her fearlessness.”
