Call For Collaboration: your chance to work with Actual Source on a series of graphic stamps
Call for Collaboration is an It’s Nice That x Dropbox Paper project connecting creatives from across the world to collaborate on fun, fully commissioned creative projects. Each month we’ll spotlight the projects on It’s Nice that and show how Dropbox Paper helps these great ideas come to life.
In our second instalment of Call for Collaboration, Utah-based designers and publishers Actual Source are on the lookout for a graphic designer or illustrator to help it co-create a series of graphic stamps.
Founded by JP Haynie and Davis Ngarupe, Actual Source considers collaboration as a key part of its output. To put together its publication, Shoplifters , the designers work with a long list of creative gems, including Raf Rennie, Hassan Rahim, and Stefan Marx – to name only a few. “We always learn a lot from our collaborators,” Actual Source tells us. “We are very curious and want to learn as much as we can, collaborating facilitates that. As Fraser Muggeridge says ‘Knowledge is design’.”
For their project with a brand new collaborator, the pair has chosen the theme a “collaboration of two cities”, looking for a graphic design or illustration-orientated creative to discuss the similarities and differences of the two places each lives and works. Considering the fact that JP and Davis will not know their new collaborator personally they thought it would be good to choose a subject that would be familiar to all of them. “Also, the final outcome would represent each of us in some way," they explain.
Once Actual Source and its soon-to-be-decided collaborator discuss the visual references of their respective home cities, JP and Davis want to interpret the conversations into graphic stamps. Considering it a fascinating graphic format that could show multiple, isolated representations of each city, they also like how graphic stamps often show imperfections – not something often seen in the meticulous world of design.
JP and Davis say they’re open to working with someone with almost any style or background. Their main hope is to find someone whose work is “in contrast to ours". So, whether your expertise is in typography or hands-on illustration, they suggest submitting the work which best shows your passion and approach.
